Is a Costco TV the Same as Best Buy's? Decoding Warehouse-Club Model Numbers
A Costco TV is usually the same series as the set at Best Buy or Samsung.com—but the full order code differs on purpose (channel letter, region ending, bundles). Match the complete code and the manufacturer or retailer spec sheet. Do not assume every warehouse SKU is identical hardware, and do not treat a Canada listing as a US twin.
Check a model number
Worked example: Samsung QN80F 75-inch
Some coverage compares Costco’s 75-inch QN80F to Best Buy using a code ending in C (XZC) htr-costco-one-letter-trick. That ending is the Costco Canada listing (QN75QN80FAFXZC) costco-ca-qn75qn80fafxzc—not Costco US. Costco US item 4000357500 lists QN75QN80FDFXZA costco-us-qn75qn80fdfxza; Samsung.com’s US set is QN75QN80FAFXZA samsung-qn75qn80fafxza-product. For US shoppers, the meaningful letter change is A vs D after the year, not C vs A.
| Listing | Full order code | Country | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung.com / general retail (US) | QN75QN80FAFXZA | US | Samsung US product page; UPC 887276931951 on a dealer listing samsung-qn75qn80fafxza-product, dealer-qn75qn80fafxza-upc |
| Costco US (item 4000357500) | QN75QN80FDFXZA | US | A→D channel letter vs FA; Ultimate UHD Dimming and 40W on Costco’s sheet costco-us-qn75qn80fdfxza |
| Costco Canada (item 4000362274) | QN75QN80FAFXZC | Canada | XZC region ending on the Canada listing; 30W speakers—do not mix with US FD costco-ca-qn75qn80fafxzc |
Overlapping published fields for the US FA and Costco US FD sheets include Mini-LED / Quantum Matrix-class backlight language, 120Hz native (Samsung FA also says up to 144Hz), Motion Xcelerator 144Hz, and four HDMI inputs samsung-qn75qn80fafxza-product, costco-us-qn75qn80fdfxza. We do not declare the sets identical: Costco US prints “Ultimate UHD Dimming” and 40W speakers; Samsung’s FA page prints “Supreme UHD Dimming” and 30W costco-us-qn75qn80fdfxza, samsung-qn75qn80fafxza-product. No Samsung.com product page for QN75QN80FDFXZA was available to reconcile those lines, so we leave dimming and audio as unverified for a same-TV claim. Costco Canada’s FAFXZC listing shows 30W speakers costco-ca-qn75qn80fafxzc—another reason not to mix Canadian and US specs. No prices on this page.
How to read a Samsung US order code
Take QN75QN80FDFXZA: QN (QLED / North America type letters), 75 (size class), QN80F (series; Samsung’s US page labels QN80F as 2025, so F is the year letter on that set) samsung-qn75qn80fafxza-product, then the channel letter (A general retail vs D club form), then FXZA (tuner / design / USA). Swap the last country block to XZC on the Costco Canada listing (FAFXZC)—that is a region ending, not proof that US Costco “ends in C.”
Use the Samsung model-number decoder for the structural split. For a sourced D vs A example already in TV Checker, see QN42S90FDE vs QN42S90FAE. Related Neo QLED series hub: Samsung QN90F. Matching short names at Walmart vs Best Buy is a different problem—see Walmart TV model numbers.
Other brands (historical club suffixes)
Consumer Reports’ Costco TV article (updated May 2023) used 2022–23 examples that are useful as patterns, not as current inventory consumer-reports-costco-tv:
- LG (historical, 2022 C2 era): warehouse suffixes such as AUA / AUB / AQA versus PUA / PUB elsewhere—e.g. OLED65C2AUA vs OLED65C2PUA.
- Samsung (historical, 2022 Q60B era): club models often add a D—e.g. QN75Q60BD at clubs vs QN75Q60B at Amazon / Best Buy.
- Sony (historical, 2022 A80K era): club codes such as XR-65A80CK versus XR-65A8K at electronics retailers.
Re-check current LG and Sony pages before treating those letter patterns as still true. Decoders: LG, Sony. Digital Trends, discussing a Costco TCL 98-inch Q672G, says it “appears the same as” the Q651G—that is their assessment, not a lab result digital-trends-costco-tv-models.
Why the code differs
Warehouse clubs often get unique SKUs so the printed model number is not identical to the set at Best Buy or Amazon. Consumer Reports, HomeTechnologyReview, BGR, and Digital Trends all describe the same practical outcome: price-match policies that require an identical model number may refuse when the codes differ consumer-reports-costco-tv, htr-costco-one-letter-trick, bgr-costco-exclusive-tvs, digital-trends-costco-tv-models. We do not invent a broader policy claim—verify the store’s current rules.
What Costco adds
Bundles, extended coverage, and extras are listing-specific. BGR notes Costco can negotiate exclusive SKUs and attach warranties or other perks bgr-costco-exclusive-tvs; Costco’s own US QN80F page shows an Allstate protection-plan bundle on that item costco-us-qn75qn80fdfxza. Read the listing in front of you—do not assume every Costco TV includes the same plan, gift card, or soundbar. Club exclusives can also differ in specs; always open the sheet for that exact code.
Checklist
Reuse the live steps from how to tell if a TV is a Black Friday model:
- Copy the complete model number—including channel and region letters from the ad, box, or shelf tag.
- Search the exact number, not only the short series nickname (QN80F).
- Open that exact model’s spec sheet (manufacturer page or retailer table), not only series marketing—and keep US and Canada sheets separate.
- Compare key fields with the set at the other retailer: HDMI count, native refresh Hz, dimming/backlight wording, speaker output, and whatever warranty or bundle that listing actually includes.
FAQ
- Is the Costco Samsung QN80F the same as Best Buy's?
- For the 75-inch US example, Costco lists QN75QN80FDFXZA and general-retail / Samsung.com lists QN75QN80FAFXZA—the codes differ only in the A/D channel letter. They are the same QN80F series and year, but we do not call the hardware identical: Costco’s sheet says Ultimate UHD Dimming and 40W speakers, while Samsung’s FA page says Supreme UHD Dimming and 30W, and Samsung.com has no FD product page we could check. Compare full codes and both spec sheets before you buy.
- What does the D mean in a Samsung model number?
- On recent US Samsung order codes, the letter after the year often marks the sales channel or generation form. A is the general-retail pattern (for example QN75QN80FAFXZA). D appears on warehouse-club codes such as Costco’s QN75QN80FDFXZA. Consumer Reports historically noted that Samsung club models often add a D. TV Checker already documents several D vs A pairs that ENERGY STAR treats as the same basic model except the designation—see QN42S90FDE vs QN42S90FAE.
- Will Best Buy price match Costco?
- Reporting from Consumer Reports, HomeTechnologyReview, BGR, and Digital Trends says retailers may refuse a price match when the printed model numbers differ—even if shoppers believe the TVs are equivalent. We do not claim a store’s current policy beyond that. Check the retailer’s price-match rules and compare the exact full codes yourself.
