Are Walmart TVs the Same as Best Buy's? How to Read the Model Number
An extra letter on a Walmart listing does not automatically mean a different TV. Match the full order code (for example UN75U7900FFXZA) and the UPC. If both match the set at Best Buy, it is the same TV—even when one store shortens the name.
Check a model number
Worked example: Samsung U7900F
Coverage of Walmart’s “Samsung 75-inch U7900F” and Best Buy’s “75-inch U7900 Series” correctly notes they can be the same set yahoo-tech-walmart-tv-bgr. What does not hold is treating the trailing F as a Walmart-only SKU tag. Samsung sells the US set as UN75U7900FFXZA samsung-un75u7900ffxza-product; Best Buy’s standalone SKU 6639197 page lists “U7900 Series … (2025)” with model UN75U7900FFXZA and UPC 887276951904 bestbuy-u7900f-series-2025; a barcode record also ties that UPC / order code to Best Buy SKU 6639197 and Walmart barcodedb-887276951904. We do not invent a “U7900 vs U7900F” compare page—this example is one SKU with two short names.
| Retailer name shown | Full order code | UPC | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walmart short name “U7900F” (75-inch) | UN75U7900FFXZA | 887276951904 | Same UPC also referenced with Walmart on a barcode record |
| Best Buy short name “U7900” / listing “U7900 Series (2025)” | UN75U7900FFXZA | 887276951904 | Best Buy standalone SKU 6639197 |
Specs we cite for the series (not prices): the Samsung U7900F sheet hosted by ABC Warehouse lists 60Hz, 2 HDMI, Crystal Processor 4K, and sizes 50–85 as UN{size}U7900FFXZA samsung-u7900f-abc-spec. Prices change; we do not store them here.
How to read a Samsung US order code
Take UN75U7900FFXZA: UN (UHD / LED family in Samsung’s type letter), 75 (size class), U7900 (series), then F in the year-code slot, then FXZA (generation / tuner / design / USA). Best Buy’s listing calls the series 2025. “U7900” on a shelf tag is a shortened marketing name for that same order code—not proof of a second TV.
Use the Samsung model-number decoder for the structural split. Suffix letters are not always a red flag; see also how we treat same-designation pairs such as QN55S85DDE vs QN55S85DAE.
When it really is a different TV
Some retailer-only or lower-tier series do differ. Do not assume every Walmart suffix equals the Best Buy twin. A sourced counter-example is Samsung DU6900 vs DU7200 (notably HDMI count)—read as a lower-tier same-generation model, not as proof that every exclusive letter is harmless. The check is the same: pull the exact model’s spec sheet and compare HDMI count, native refresh Hz, panel/dimming, and related fields. Another same-specs pair for practice: 55UT7570PUB vs 55UT7000PUA.
4-step checklist
Reuse the live steps from how to tell if a TV is a Black Friday model:
- Copy the complete model number—including every suffix letter from the ad, box, or shelf tag.
- Search the exact number, not only the short series nickname.
- Open that exact model’s spec sheet (manufacturer page or PDF), not only series marketing.
- Compare key fields with the set at the other retailer: HDMI ports, native refresh Hz, local dimming, processor, and warranty—and confirm UPC / full order code when the short names disagree.
Price matching when codes look different
BGR notes that Walmart may not honor a price match when the printed codes differ, even if shoppers believe the TVs are equivalent yahoo-tech-walmart-tv-bgr. We do not claim a broader retailer policy beyond that reporting—verify the store’s current price-match rules before you buy.
FAQ
- Is the Samsung U7900F at Walmart the same as the U7900 at Best Buy?
- For the 75-inch example we checked, yes: both map to the same full order code UN75U7900FFXZA and the same UPC 887276951904. Best Buy’s standalone SKU 6639197 page lists the set as U7900 Series (2025) with that model and UPC. An extra letter in a short retailer name alone does not prove a different TV.
- What does the F mean in a Samsung TV model number?
- In the US order-code pattern, F sits in the year-code position after the series (UN75U7900F… before FXZA). Best Buy lists this series as 2025 on the standalone U7900 page. That is not a Walmart-only suffix: the same F is in Samsung’s full order code and on Best Buy’s model field for SKU 6639197. TV Checker’s Samsung decoder still treats later year letters as an unverified calendar-year map when they are missing from Samsung’s published US guide table.
- Are Walmart Black Friday TVs worse?
- Some are, some aren’t. An exclusive or doorbuster number can be a lower-spec sibling, a renamed twin, or something else. Compare HDMI count, native refresh Hz, and other sourced fields—see our Black Friday model guide and the DU6900 vs DU7200 compare page for a sourced lower-tier example.
